Our Story

We are the Meraki Midwives. We first met while working at a small community hospital in 2017. True kindred spirits, our meeting was no happenstance, but rather an orchestration by a gracious, heavenly Father who had big plans for our future. We were fortunate enough to endure graduate school together and walk alongside one another during graduation. We are blessed by our friendship and ecstatic about our growing business partnership.

Midwifery is a calling. Let’s face it, anything that can pull you away from your family dinner or your cozy bed at two a.m. must be divine intervention. Our love for people and desire to witness miracles fuels our passion.

No matter what phase of life you are in, we want to come alongside you in your journey. As a trusted partner, we will provide evidence-based resources, explain all options, listen to your concerns, and ultimately support you in the decision you make concerning your care.

We believe the art of midwifery lies within the knowledge and devotion to honoring birth as a normal process. Our education affords us with the skills to incorporate the science of medicine when intervention is necessary.

Please don’t let our casual demeanor fool you. We don’t dress up. Birth can be a bit messy, and labor may extend many hours. Scrubs are glorified pajamas providing both comfort and casual professionalism. It is likely we may doze off on the floor or side of the birth pool. We will drink your coffee and probably help ourselves to any snacks you offer (we never turn down food). We will count how many steps it is from your bathroom to desired birth pool location and become as familiar with your home as possible along the way. We’re not just being nosy, we are planning. Planning for the setup of our equipment. We are medical professionals and capable of performing some incredible feats on your living room floor. With nearly three decades of nursing experience between us, we have caught hundreds of babies and assisted in thousands more. It is our desire for you to experience the birth you have dreamed of, in a safe environment, all in the comfort of your own home.

When deciding on a name for our midwifery practice we wanted something that seemed to embody the essence of who we are as midwives/humans as well as something that was catchy and birth-like. Naturally, we picked a name that most cannot pronounce and do not know what it means (obviously, we are not business majors). Meraki (pronounced may-rah-key or mA-‘rak-E) is Greek and means to do something with creativity, passion and love. It’s inserting yourself into your work, essentially performing a ‘labor of love’... and that is why we are here.

Blessings,

Amanda & Bethany
